COMMUNITY COMMUNICATIONS

This course will examine the principles of communications and their role in voluntary sector organizations and in community leadership settings. Effective communications target the right message to the right audience at the right time, and an investment in appropriate, well-planned communications can increase the bottom line, even when time and financial resources may be limited.  Developed for those working within the voluntary sector or other community settings, this course is designed to provide an overview of communications tools and planning – from the development of a communications plan, to branding an organization, to choosing the most appropriate marketing communication vehicles and tools, and measuring the results. Participants will also gain a better understanding of research basics, competitive analysis, identity, message development, advertising, advocacy, electronic media, marketing, promotion, publicity, public relations, and media relations.

ADVANCED FUNDRAISING AND RESOURCE GENERATION

This course will build upon the fundamentals introduced in Fundraising and Resource Generation CMDV 1125 to facilitate a more advanced understanding of fundraising.  You will explore in-depth strategies for developing donor relationships, strengthening the fundraising team, and implementing effective communications.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT FOR THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR
CMDV 1143 C

Human Resources Management is a key component of a successful non-profit organization. The course explores the theories and practices of Human Resources Management in order to ensure an increased ability to implement best practices for the effective engagement of both staff and volunteers.  The course addresses human resource decisions, legal influences, evaluation of individual outputs, recruitment and selection, orientation and training.  Some labour legislation and approaches in labour relations are studied.  Other topics include employee benefits and services, internal communication, and anticipating needs for more effective human resources management and positive labour relations.
