The Voluntary Sector is Essential
Values added: Canada’s Charities and Nonprofits … Building Communities Together....
Voluntary sector organizations provide opportunities for citizens to join hands in the effort to make their world a better place. They are essential for caring, community-based action. Social, environmental, and economic challenges cannot and will not be met by business or government alone.
The Niagara College Centre for Community Leadership supports the voluntary sector by providing capacity-building support and services in the following areas:
- information dissemination
- training
- consulting
- technology support
- celebrating and profiling the sector

Maytree Public Policy Training Institute
The Maytree Public Policy Training Institute is an innovative learning program designed for individuals and organizations with a demonstrated interest and engagement in public policy. The objective of the program is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to develop, influence and monitor public policy on issues relevant to their communities of interest. The program is specifically aimed at participants who can articulate an issue where policy change could have a significant progressive impact.
The Institute begins in October 2006 and will offer a comprehensive five module training series of one and two day sessions over a six-month period. Program sessions will be facilitated by leading public policy experts that include academics, community activists, government policy developers, political policy staff and communications professionals. Additional one-on-one coaching clinics will be offered to participants so they can access personalized advice and support to develop a policy-ready position by program-end.
